The son of the original owner knew little about the engine, other than to say that it came from a cattle operation the family once owned in Capay, California. Other than hosing off bird droppings and mud-dauber wasp nests, using a degreasing agent, I have not altered the engine from the condition in which I received it. I did liberally spray WD-40 into the crank case to drive out moisture that I feared might be there after cleaning off the exterior. Not in running condition. I think it is pretty complete, but not knowing much about these engines, I must sell AS IS. Please view photos carefully. Contact me with questions and I’ll answer as best I can. The piston and gearing all moves easily. The push rod and valves all seem to work properly as far as I can tell. I do not see any cracks in the cast iron, though I must admit I have not cleaned all the years’ accumulation of muck off the engine. I believe the most likely place for cracks is the water hopper, and it shows no cracks or repairs. POSTED 9/2: I noticed while hand-cranking the engine that there is a lot of slop at the main bearing on the crankshaft. I have posted two videos of the 1923 engine on Photobucket, but I have had no luck figuring out how the heck to link to them from this page. The item number is 291553394577. Rare tank cooled 1906 Waterloo Gasoline Engine with beautiful original paint and gold leaf striping. 5018, the 116th of 377 engines built by Waterloo Gasoline Engine Company in 1906. Very attractive cast bronze name plate, original fuel tank, skids, oiler. A true barn find, only required oiling and fuel to get running again after resting in a barn since the 1920′s. The water tank and original Waterloo cart was added recently, original beaded pipe fittings. Engine has great compression, starts easy and runs slow and quiet. There is a hairline freeze crack from the bottom water jacket pipe fitting but just drips a little. The head has never been off this engine and it runs just fine. I wouldn’t mess with it but its up to the new owner. No other cracks, breaks or welds. Flywheel 27″ x 2 1/4″ 4 1/4″ bore – 4 3/4″ stroke. Some of the nicest original paint I have seen and the leaf striping is gorgeous artwork. Surely one of the top Waterloo engines in this condition. I think my reserve is reasonable for such a rare example. You be the judge. Never know what might show up! 6′L X 4′ W X 4′ H weight approx 7-800 lbs. A good friend of mine with an empty one ton van is leaving Montana and driving to Pennsylvania and back sometime in late July. It is shown in the second photo of this listing. I hope it is correct so please let me know if it is not. And it is now included with this engine even though it is not yet shown in the photos. Please let me know if you have or know where I might get these original or reproduction parts. This relatively late John Deere produced 3 HP Model H Waterloo Boy gasoline engine has a serial number of 228,881. Both of the fragile original brass tags are in very nice original condition. According to the site Waterloo Gasoline Engine Co. This engine was built in 1922 with production ending in 1923 when John Deere introduced the Model E 1-1/2, 3 and 6 HP gasoline engines. This engine is stuck and is missing the fuel tank, governor cover, connecting rod guard, intake valve spring and cylinder drip oiler. As is often the case, someone a long time ago substituted a spark plug for the original igniter, Since these photos were taken I found the correct Wizard igniter and magneto mount and it is shown in the second photo of this listing. This engine is definitely worthy of a restoration so any help in locating these missing parts mentioned above would be greatly appreciated. The speed control lever still moves but everything else seems to be seized up. The cylinder head has been frozen and broken and arc welded with nickel rod. The cylinder water jacket and water hopper appear to be fine with no cracks or welds. The very fragile and often broken original rocker arm is fine. The pivot for the rocker arm is broken but both of the pieces are present. One piece is still bolted to the cylinder head while the outer part is attached to the original rocker arm. Someone drilled and tapped a pair of holes in the back of the top of the water hopper to attach a pair of strap iron pieces that may have held a gas tank at one time. These straps also attached to the back of the engine base where the connecting rod cover originally attached. This engine still has traces of it’s original John Deere paint intact and appears to never have been repainted. If you collect John Deere tractors or engines, this engine would be a logical addition to your collection. I have owned 3 of the earlier Waterloo Boy engines but this it the only one I have ever owned that was actually built by John Deere after they acquired the Waterloo Gasoline Engine Company. Many of my friends in the collectible car, truck and tractor hobbies are very happy with using Fastenall. They normally charge considerably less than commercial trucking companies do. I will be adding more information soon. The item “A 1922 John Deere Waterloo Boy 3HP Model H Hit & Miss Old Gas E Engine D B” is in sale since Friday, June 27, 2014. Here is a very rare and old tank cooled 4hp waterloo gasoline engine co. This is the predecessor to the john deere co i believe. It has great compression and should run without any trouble but i haven’t tried it. The are no cracks, breaks, or welds any where that i can see or know of on the head and cylinder area. One tooth is missing off the crankshaft gear. I don’t think that will hurt anything at all. The one of the main bearing caps also seems to have an old repair that is hard to see and will not hurt anything. Take a look at the pictures and see if you need it. Very good compression, turns over fine. This item is also for sale locally. I reserve the right to end this listing at any time. Most items will go out faster though. If you have any questions give me a call 419-789-1159. I have many good parts and pieces i will be listing in the next few months. I try to do a very good job of listing everything i sell in a very accurate manner to explain all the good and bad points with the pictures and in the description. So if someone doesn’t pay i will ban them from my listings and also tell all my friends who also sell engine parts on here who to watch out for. If you haven’t caught on this is supposed to be mildly funny but yet serious at the same time. If you decide you don’t want it or find another one cheaper you i won’t take it back. For example if my measurements are wrong i would take it back. So here it is. I have 100% positive feedback, everyone who has ever bought from me has received there item.
