Original Brass, Three Bar, Type L, marked L 8 on the band, Webster Tri-Polar Oscillator in untested condition. This magneto appears complete and looks to be in good condition except for the end plates, which are severely pitted. I can find no other defects, cracks, or flaws other than missing oil caps and frayed insulation on the wire. The base, studs and threads are in very good condition. It is not stuck, but is very stiff and does not trip freely as it should. It will need to be cleaned and serviced. The original Brass Band is in good condition. I can see no marking on the trip finger. It has been in dry storage for several years. It is a hard item to find in this condition. Please check the photos closely and if you have any questions or concerns please ask. Very Nice “as found” WEBSTER TYPE AMM MODEL 303M51 TRI POLAR OSCILLATOR MAGNETO. Physically quite clean and appears to be all there with no broken/cracked parts (see all photos). Has not been tested but should be functional. If not, should take little to make it so based on condition I feel.. LATE NOTE: A crack on the inner magnet band was just located (see last close-up photo). Didn’t notice it originally and not sure how big a deal it is, but since it came to my attention I wanted to make sure ALL was divulged. This is a very nice Webster K magneto. These were used on many different hit and miss and throttle governed gas engines back in the day. It is in excellent condition with no cracks, breaks, or repairs of any kind except for chip on an oiler tube as I’ve pointed out. This won’t affect it’s performance but I wanted to show it. It has very little wear in the bearings or on the trip finger. It needs a new name band which are available from several of the hobby suppliers rather inexpensively. It has the original leadout wire which is aged but works just fine. The magneto mounts on a 2 inch square bolt pattern and all of the threads and studs are in great shape. I’ve checked this magneto and it puts out a hot fat, blue spark that will surely run your engine if it is setup properly. It would even make a great spare on the shelf! The pictures tell the story. This brass body magneto is in good condition. The only parts not original are one screw for one of the bearing plates and the two small screws for the terminal cover. The armature spins freely with very little play. The bracket mounting stud threads are all good and are spaced at 2″ x 2″. The magnets don’t seem very strong but when I snapped the armature by hand it produced a nice white spark on the bracket that was attached when found. Barn Fresh, good, rebuildable Webster Magneto and Ignitor. Model 303-M-55 for a WORTHINGTON hit-miss gas engine. Check out the pictures closely. They tell the story. The magneto’s armature bearings are very good. The ignitor’s shaft bearing is very good. The points are very good. This magneto was not in service very long as indicated by the lack of wear. I recharged the magnet and the mag produces a hot blue spark. When reassembling the mag to the bracket, the one bolt hole broke out. I deepened the threads and the bolt is again holding good. The front plate is broken but this does not affect the performance of the mag at all. Actually some JB weld before repainting will last a lifetime. The spring tab on the ignitor advance arm is missing. The mag needs new springs. All parts are available online from the suppliers noted above.
