HERE’S A RARELY FOUND SPARK COIL WITH DELUXE OAK CASE; THE STYLE USUALLY FOUND IN A LABORATORY SETTING, BUT THE. DEWEY’S SPORTING GOODS / ELECTRIC SUPPLIES /MILWAUKEE. INDICATING THIS MAY WELL HAVE BEEN THE IGNITION COIL FOR AN OLD. HIT AND MISS ENGINE! This is a genuine EARLY 1900′S SPARK COIL in a deluxe oak, dovetailed box. Normally such fancy “trim” would have been used for laboratory and school electrical apparatus. Of top-of-the-line construction, all the interrupter hardware and terminals are SOLID BRASS. The stationary contact plate is stamped NEW YORK / COIL COMPANY / N. Within a shield outline. The sporting goods store identification is a 7/8 round, copper plate attached to the top with a tack. In black litho, it reads: DEWEY’S / SPORTING GOODS / (MOTIF OF MOOSE) / ELECTRIC SUPPLIES / 268 WEST WATER ST. SIZE- Fairly large, the overall dimensions are: 8-7/8″ L X 4-3/8″ W X 5-1/8 H. As the pics show, this coil works great, probably putting out 30-40,000 volts with a 6V. Input as a hot’n healthy spark jumps the 5/8 spark gap we made(included). The original varnished finish is in good condition. All the brass exhibits normal tarnish; an age-patina that one would expect and desire with a 100 year old piece. See pics as they tell a lot about the fine condition of this coil. Antique and vintage items are rarely 100% “mint”, having very minor flaws or at least an in-use patina.
