Here is a pretty nice old 2 1/4hp Associated Hired Man hit and miss gas engine. It is fresh from an old collection where it lived for many years. It is in great shape with no cracks, breaks or repairs other than the missing speed changing screw and some heavy solder and a new filler neck on the original embossed gas tank. This could be cleaned up a bit and look a little more presentable if you so choose. It turns over nicely with decent compression and everything seems to move and function as it should. There is very little wear on the gearing or in the bearings. It is an earlier engine with the straight ignitor trip and I don’t think it ever had a magneto on it. It has the original belt pulley and name tag on it. I think with a little fresh gas and a battery and coil this engine would fire right up and make noise. This is one of the harder to find Associated sizes. It would be a fine addition to your early hit and miss engine collection or Associated lineup. The pictures tell the story. You’ll like it. This is an old, mostly original Associated Chore Boy hit and miss engine. It is in relatively barn fresh cosmetic condition but it appears someone has started working on the restoration. The head has been painted but the rest of the engine appears original. It looks to have a sleeve in the cylinder. It turns over as it should and the valves seem to have been redone. It has a decent amount of original paint on it and it still has some old grease and dried oil on it so there should be more original paint to be found! It has the large magneto on it and also the original fuel saver which are usually missing. The exhaust port on the head has some damage but I think there’s enough meat there to tap it further and it should be usable. The push rod clamp is cracked and should be replaced or repaired. One head stud is broken off a bit but may still be usable. There are no other cracks, breaks, or repairs that I can see or know of. The bearings all have many shims left in them and the gearing looks to be in very good condition. It is missing the original serial tag on the back of the crankcase but I believe these are available as reproductions. This engine should be a pretty straightforward project. Associated or United magneto for hit miss engine. Mag is in good condition and ready to use. Leaving the mag with original patina, new owner can shine up if desired. Mag fits all the Associated engines that have the 4 bolt mag bracket. BRASS mag that is very solid to use. Threads are all in good shape. Lights up a 12 volts test light by hand nice. I recharged the magnets to make sure it was at full strength. 2 3/4′ X 2 3/4 mounting spacing. Guaranteed to be a HOT mag. I also have some 4 bolt mag brackets available too, just ask. If you don’t see a part you need listed, good chance I have it and haven’t gotten around to it yet so just check with me. Like I said I have done this a long time and try to list everything accurately to explain all the good and the bad. If you decide you don’t want it or find another one cheaper, I won’t take it back. This is an extremely hard to find and pretty nice original factory wheelbarrow cart for a small Associated hit and miss gas engine. It is in good condition with no cracks, breaks, or repairs that I’m aware of. The wheels are 9 inches in diameter with a 1 5/8 inch face. The wheels and rear axle casting are original and the handles are faithful reproductions. Just add a plank of the correct size and mount your engine! It rolls nicely and would certainly make moving your engine easier! This is the correct cart for the smaller Associated engines and possibly others. It would work under any engine in the 1 1/2 to 2hp size depending on the engine and it would make the engine stand out with the fancy wheels! I can deliver it for free to Baraboo, WI, Portland, IN, or Coolspring, PA, later this year. The pictures tell the story. It will likely be quite a while before another one turns up and it probably won’t be this nice so don’t miss it. This is a very nice 1914 Associated Chore Boy 1 3/4HP hit and miss stationary gas engine. It is mounted on an Allied Machine Welding cart with special decorative, curved wheel spokes. This engine has it’s original tag mounted on the hopper. It has a new igniter and a new gas tank. It has been gone through completely. There are new valve guides and seats. The grease cups are brass. The battery box, coil and battery are included. This very nice engine is east to start and is show ready. I live about an hour or so east of Reno.
