Here is a nice original Maytag 72 Twin Cylinder. This one likes to start with one plug wire removed and grounded. Then after it’s running on one cylinder, reattach the other wire. This is fairly common on these twins. It also slings some gas out around the starter while running, this too is pretty common. It has the Eisemann magneto. Mounted to a custom wood skid. These Maytags can be a bit temperamental at times, but once you get it set right for starting, it will sit and run nicely. This one does seem to run slower than the other twins I’ve owned. I’m guessing the previous owner set it to run this way and it can probably be adjusted if you wish. I have decided to leave this engine in it’s “work clothes”, as far as refinishing. You can choose wether you’d like to restore it further or run it as it is. Looks like it has some original decals. I own several of these Maytags in my collection, and they are a great hobby.
