This is a VERY hard to find original Leader 3/4 inch governor for a steam engine or gas engine. It is in excellent used condition with no cracks, breaks, or repairs that I can see or know of other than needing the valve rod put back into the socket with the set screw. Everything moves as it should. There is very little wear on the gears and only a little more on the pulley shaft. It has the original pulley on it. The 3/4 inch NPT threads look to be in great shape. It stands about 12 inches tall. Other than the valve rod and a little cleaning I would say this governor would be ready to be used on an engine! These old Leader governors are quite tough to find in the wild or even at swap meets so if you’ve been looking for one for an authentic restoration here’s a really nice one. This is a super nice original 1 inch Leader governor made in Kalamazoo, Michigan. It is very unusual as it is a horizontal design. I can’t remember ever seeing another one exactly like it. Governors like this were commonly used on steam engines as well as a few gas engines. I think this style governor was used on Marinette traction engines and probably a few others. It is in excellent used condition with no cracks, breaks, or repairs of any kind. It has VERY little noticeable wear on the gears or on the shaft. Everything seems to move as it should. The 1 inch pipe threads are in excellent condition. It stands about 10 inches tall and about 13 inches long overall. I would say it is ready to be used on an engine or put on the shelf for a spare. These original governors are extremely tough to find in the wild or even at swap meets and they usually need a rebuild of some sort. It’s ready to go to work. If you’ve been looking for one to complete a project, restoration, or for a scale model don’t miss your chance on this one. It would be tough to find a nicer one! The pictures tell the story. The engine is in very nice shape mechanically, compression is very good and overall wear is really low. This is a HEAVY built engine, weighs far more than a normal 2hp engine. The flywheels have the name cast into them. The only two issues with it, is a small chip out of the piston, and a small weld on the side of the head, neither of these things affects the engines operation at all. The engine fires strong and coasts nice too. It will run slower that it’s running in the video. The engine is totally complete including the original muffler and belt pulley. Comes with a nice early Lunkenheimer oiler (needs new glass). Take a look at the pictures and decide for yourself, this engine is ready to hit the shows next summer! Hard to find, early well built engine to add to your collection. You can also pick the engine up here we are 100 miles north of Detroit. Can store it free for 6 months. Feel free to ask questions!
