Rare 1/2 npt two weight flyball governor. Please note one of the gears is worn from misalignment , somehow. It will work fine as is, I think. Although I had thought about building the teeth up with braze and re-cutting the teeth. But, I found a different model that I’m going to use so, someone else can have this one. I looked a long time for this governor, it’s really quite nice and complete with the pulleys. It looks to have been repainted black at some point. This is a real nice original Pickering governor for an early gas prairie tractor or possibly a steam tractor. It is in excellent original condition and seems to have very little wear. It measures about 13 inches long overall. It mounts with 4 holes on a 1 11/16 square bolt pattern. I presume it is for a horizontal application as the oil cups are vertical when the governor is horizontal. The arm has a ball and socket for the carburetor linkage that looks to be a factory setup and not cobbled together. Everything seems to work as it should. It says “800 Rev” on the top brass ring. I believe this is a very hard to find governor and could possibly have been used on a variety of early tractors. These Pickering governors, especially the specialty ones, are extremely difficult to find in the wild or even at swap meets so if you’ve been looking for one don’t miss your chance on this one. It will likely be a long time before another one turns up and it probably won’t be this nice. I can be reached at 262 573 1931 if you’d like to talk about it. The pictures tell the story. ANTIQUE PICKERING FLY BALL GOVERNOR Very nice antique 2 Pickering fly ball governor in good useable condition with no serious damage (driven pulley has two chips) and no repairs. The valve throw adjuster works, as does the valve tension device, and what looks like some sort of override also functions as it should. The horizontal shaft/bushing is showing some wear, mainly on the out board end, and no doubt in the direction of the drive belt tension (the wear is mostly horizontal). This old beauty spins easily by hand and the springs are good. Plenty of grease and grime but I do believe this one could be pressed back into service if the need is there. I personally have never seen one this complete or damage free. Half inch bolts are 2 3/4″ on center, brass valve is 2″ in diameter and the unit from top of base to top of governor is 22 1/2. For your consideration is this original antique Pickering fly ball steam engine governor. This was obtained from a large farm estate, I have not cleaned this, its truly farm fresh. The governor is marked Pickering Governor Co Portland, Conn on one side, and the other is marked Shaft Rev 430. The number 406775B follows. It is also marked Pat Oct 15 07. The gears seem to turn smoothly despite some grime and surface corrosion. If you need a better picture or close up of a part, please ask. It seems to be in very solid condition but will obviously need some oiling/work if you want to use this again. It measures about 20.5″ from top to bottom, and the base has about a 5.5″ diameter. The three flyballs are about 2.5 in diameter each. If you need other measurements, please ask. A great governor to fix up and put to use again. Will sell with no reserve.
