For sale is a Fairbanks and Morse 3 hp 475 Rpm gas engine. The patent date is 6-12-17. This is a throttle governed engine. I only spent about 10 minutes messing with it and basically cleaned it up a little. I bought a small collection of motors from someone recently him and his father were the ones that did this restoration many years ago and it was garage kept. They built the cart for which pivots in the front. I would say it is 90% original in running condition. Could need a few tweaks or minor maintenance, but overall in excellent condition with great compression. This is a VERY hard to find original Dixie 462-C 2-cylinder base mount magneto. It was used on the Eagle tractors and portable engines and probably had other 2-cylinder applications. It is in great shape with no cracks, breaks, or repairs that I can see or know of. It is clockwise rotation and the impulse works as it should but could use a new compression spring which should be easy. I believe the rotation can be changed to CCW without too much trouble. Everything seems to work as it should. It turns over nicely with very little bearing wear. It has good magnetism and puts out a nice blue spark on both leadouts. Everything inside the points cover looks to be in great shape. It mounts on a 2 inch square bolt pattern and the mounting threads are in great shape. These original Dixie 462-C magnetos are almost impossible to find in the wild or even at swap meets so if you’ve been looking for one for an authentic restoration here’s a really nice one. Here is a K-W HTK 2 cylinder heavy duty magneto. The impulse is setup for the mag to be counterclockwise rotation but it will make spark in either direction. The leadout area has a chip on the one side which shouldn’t hurt anything. The spark wire that comes to the front of the mag end is broken off but it still works and it would be super easy to solder a new end on it if you wanted to. It makes a very nice hot snapping spark! Please take a look at the pictures and decide if you need it. No wear can be felt, turns over smoothly, has a slight amount of bearing noise. 2″ x 3-5/32″ Mounting pattern, the holes have good threads. 3-5/32 diameter gear with 27 teeth. Weighs 34 lbs before any packing material or box. I think I list items very accurately but my opinion on condition may differ from yours. I have not had most of these mags apart and may not know what the inside looks like. If you want advice on how to use it please give me a call and I’ll be glad to help.
