Vintage Maytag Engine Model 72 Motor 1940 Twin Hit Miss Runs Great! Here is a nice original Maytag 72 Twin Cylinder. I believe this one was made in 1940. It has the Eisemann magneto. These Maytags can be a bit temperamental at times, but once you get the air cap set right for starting, it will sit and run nicely. This engine will usually start with one or two kicks. This does have a little play in the crank bushings (as most do) that you can see when its running or if you grab the flywheel and shake it. This doesnt seem to affect the running at all. It looks like the kickstart pedal has been repaired at some point, and I think the pedal cover isnt quite mounted correctly. I have decided to leave this engine in its work clothes, as far as refreshing. You can choose wether youd like to restore it further or run it as it is. I own several of these Maytags in my collection, and they are a great hobby. This would look great at an engine show, or just have it to teach the grandkids about history!
