I have thoroughly looked the engine over and there are NO cracks, breaks or welds. Very unworn, zero slop in the detent, cam gear has no back and forth movement, no endplay in the crank at all… Flywheels run perfectly true. Intake valve has some crud behind it, just needs to be popped a few times or maybe lapped in, easy to take the valve chest off and do that. The freeze plugs are both out, just needs new ones installed before you put water in the hopper. NO water jacket cracks. Original tin crank guard. Original nameplate, battery box, and nice large correct pulley. Could use a shim added to the rod cap, the engine would coast longer, its a little tight how they have it. This was taken out of a barn down south in the 1970′s I believe, and I’m quite sure this engine hadn’t ran in 50+ years until today. (you can run it on gasoline as well) These 1hp Titan JR engines are incredibly hard to find, and when you do they are usually worn out or in bad shape. This one is neither of those things. The only flaw with this engine is a weld on the head. They did a very nice job welding it, good quality weld, and I’m a welder so I know what I’m looking at. Somebody also added a piece of steel to the top of the trip rod, I think just for extra weight, it would be very easy to take that top piece off, the rest of the trip is totally correct and how its supposed to be. Ignitor works great, very little wear in the shaft. This a much harder to find Titan JR compared to others due to the duel fuel (Gasoline/Kerosene) carburetor. I think they realized it was a bad idea to have such a small hit & miss engine running on Kerosene so that carburetor was short lived. The carb is in great shape, no issues. The original, two compartment gas tank is in really nice shape, NO leaks! Has both of the original filler caps on the tank yet. Comes with the good working, early style oiler that is on it. Other than the old 1970′s paint job that is flaking off, this engine is very unmolested, and unworn. Compression is very good, fires nice and strong and coasts well. This engine has zero knocks, clunks, or bad noises when it runs, the only noise you hear is when it fires and the small cam noise every revolution like all hit & miss engines make. No wrist pin hammering, piston slop, gear noise or any of those bad things. I can’t find any welds on this engine other than the head, which if you dressed that down, you would never even know it was welded. Only thing this engine is missing, is a muffler and crank shield. The magneto on these I believe was optional, this one is a battery and coil engine. If it wasn’t for the minor issue with the weld on the head, this engine would be about as good as you could hope for, out of a Titan JR. This one is very hard not to keep for my own collection, this engine will make a great rare addition to somebody’s collection. Feel free to ask questions. This engine is in very good shape mechanically and hasn’t been messed with, everything is original. Compression is very strong. Wico EK magneto has a fresh charge, and it has been gone through, virtually no wear in the armature. The engine has three minor issues. The first one, is a small chip out of the intake valve guide which doesn’t hurt a thing. The second thing is that the rocker arm has been welded. The third flaw is a chip out of the piston skirt, the engine runs great and that chip wont affect the operation in the least bit. They flipped the rod and piston over so the piston still gets good oil, nothing needs to be done as far as the operation, it will run fine, indefinitely just as it is. Flywheels run perfectly true, no wobble at all. There is no gas tank, but I will include a tank to run the engine on, which you can see in the video of it running. Has the original nameplate. It is missing the muffler, but the correct muffler on this engine is just a standard pipe cap with holes drilled in it. Has a nice working ball check oiler on it. In the pictures the throttle shaft is out of the butterfly, it must of popped out when I was moving the engine around, just needs to be dropped back in and a cotter pin added on the bottom hole, I didn’t notice it came out or I would have done that before I took pictures. This is a very good running and looking engine. Has traces of original green paint on it, this is not a rusty engine in the least bit. Skids that its on are ok, but the new owner may want to make nicer ones, but they serve the purpose. No cracks or welds on head or water jacket, only weld is on the rocker arm like I mentioned. This is a very rare size Witte to find, almost more so than the 12hp and larger Witte engines. I was asked how the wrist pin and rod journal get lubrication if they are upside down. The grease cup is still on the rod cap its just on the bottom now, works just like it did on the top to give the bearings plenty of grease. The wrist pin gets oil cause when they switched it over they drilled a tiny hole on the top just like its supposed to have. The wrist pin gets plenty of oil. Everything in the description is correct, I just wanted to explain further. One thing I did forget to mention is the carb only has one needle valve currently, the one that runs off the gas tank. The needle valve that is supposed to be for the carb bowl is missing and somebody pipe plugged it and ground it flush I guess since they weren’t using it, if you desire to run the engine off the carb bowl you will need to drill that out and use an easy out, to remove the pipe plug. Starting it on the carb bowl is not necessary, starts fine off the gas tank using the needle valve that is on it, give it a choke and away she goes. It is mechanically very nice, and runs perfect. The gas is probably a good 20 years old which is the only reason it smokes a little in the video. Hits nice and hard and coasts for a good long time. Has a really nice unworn, hot 2 bar brass Webster on it. Gas tank is brand new, no leaks, and no water leaks. Very good compression, flywheels run true. No cracks, breaks or welds. Speed control works just as it should, this engine is ready to work all day or just idle. Nice polished flywheel rims. This engine is totally complete including the original muffler. Oiler glass has a crack in it, but works great and doesn’t leak. This engine needs nothing but a new home and some gas and oil. The engine is in good shape, and runs just as good as it looks. The gas tank is not correct as you can see, but seems to work ok. There is only one repair on the engine, and its on the trip assembly, which doesn’t hurt a thing. The Webster magneto is nice and hot, and never fails to start the engine right up. The only thing the engine is missing is a muffler and nameplate, which both can be bought new. Compression is good/fair, when the engine is running there is no blowby, but when you turn the engine over by hand some compression will leak by. This engine needs nothing but a new owner and some gas and oil, nothing else required to be ready to hit the shows. Comes with a nice ball check oiler with new glass, works perfect! The gas tank is homemade but doesn’t leak to my knowledge and is nice and heavy duty. Flywheels run perfectly true, and the engine has good compression. The engine has good compression. There is no gas tank, so I have been running it with a squirt can of gas. Runs nice and slow, hits strong! Has a 3 bar Webster magneto that is in excellent shape, and so is the bracket. The carburetor is homemade, but works just fine. Could use a new wrist pin and bushing, in these early Economys the pin is steel and the bushing is cast iron, so they make a lot of clunking noise with the slightest bit of wear, I would suggest putting a brass bushing in, it will get rid of all the clunk noise. The engine has the original belt pulley on it which is also in very nice shape. Only issues are, the rocker arm is welded, and there is a small weld on the side of the hopper. Oiler may need some tlc, mainly a good cleaning. Good straight engine that needs very little to be show ready, basically all you need is a gas tank and a fuel line with a checkvalve, that’s it! Could use a muffler or a nice straight pipe, whatever the new owner prefers. Nice early engine, right around 1916! Just needs a new home! The flywheels have the name cast into them. The only two issues with it, is a small chip out of the piston, and a small weld on the side of the head, neither of these things affects the engines operation at all. The engine fires strong and coasts nice too. It will run slower that it’s running in the video. The engine is totally complete including the original muffler and belt pulley. There is no nameplate so I don’t know what this one was tagged as. The flywheels are 28 so I assume it was either rated 5 or 6hp. The engine is in excellent shape mechanically, compression is super, and there is very little wear on the moving parts. The negatives are, the carburetor is not correct but works fine, it is off a Stover engine. The detent appears to be welded, but see picture, it almost looks like maybe just the way it was casted? Also the governor weights are homemade, but somebody did a great job making them (governor bracket it correct). Webster magneto and bracket are in great shape, and the magneto is nice and HOT! This engine resembles a Waterloo, but that’s the only similarity, the looks, nothing interchanges, they are totally different from a Waterloo and a lot harder to come by. Head looks good with no welds that I can find. Hopper holds water just fine, no leaks, same with the gas tank. The cart it is sitting on is very well built, whoever put it together took their time and did it right. It comes with a nice channel iron tongue to pull it around (not pictured). The engine has the original belt pulley and correct muffler as well. This engine is ready to take to the shows, needs nothing but some gas and oil!
