This is an extremely hard to find Sumter Model B rotary magneto for an old hit and miss or throttle governed gas engine. These were commonly used on John Lauson engines from the factory as well as options on IHC Famous and Titans and some of the earlier Fairbanks Morse and Foos engines. It is fresh from an old collectors estate and is in excellent condition with no cracks, breaks, or repairs of any kind except for slight chip/crack in the porcelain leadout and two cracked magnets which have little or no affect on its performance. It mounts on a 2 inch square hole pattern and the mounting threads in the brass base are in excellent shape. It has almost no noticeable wear on the armature bearings. I charged the magnets and it has excellent magnetic pull and great snapping spark! I believe this magneto is ready to go to work on an engine! Here is a Sumter No. 12 magneto for a FM Headless Z engine. It produces a very nice spark and has some wear. It will need a new base but those are available as reproductions and are easy to change out. It seems to knock just a little bit when it is turned over, I’ve not had it apart so I don’t know the reason. Please take a look at the pictures and decide if you need it. If you would like to talk about it 419 789 1159. SPECIAL NOTE: This is a low tension magneto, it is meant to work with an igniter and will not produce at spark that will jump an air gap. It will not work with a spark plug. The spark it produces can be observed by rubbing a wire from the terminal against the case of the mag while turning the shaft. It does have to be timed to the engine. Brass case but pot metal bottom that will need changed out. 3/8 shaft for gear mounting. Should be a 3-3/4 mounting pattern. Slight amount of knocking can be heard when its turned over. I think I list items very accurately but my opinion on condition may differ from yours. In my opinion this is a great magneto. If you have any questions about how to use it on your engine please ask. Don’t be a clown and tear it all apart and then try to return it when you can’t get it to work. Here is a very nice looking Sumter No. 22 magneto for a 3hp or 6hp FM Z engine. It produces a very nice spark and has only a very minimal or no amount of wear. The base has some very superficial cracking but it should be fine for years to come but maybe not. New bases are available as reproductions and are easy to change out.
